66-year-old woman dies in East Akron crash; 3 people ejected from the truck

A 66-year-old woman died Sunday afternoon when she was ejected from a pickup truck that slammed into another vehicle on East Market Street in Akron.

The woman’s name was not released Monday morning pending notification of next of kin.

According to Akron police and the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, the woman was a passenger in a white Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that collided with a red Ford Explorer as the Explorer turned left into the parking lot. a church. The explorer struck the van, flipping it onto its left side, police said.

The van was heading east on East Market Street and traveling at high speed at the time of the collision, police said.

The driver of the van, a 57-year-old man, and a 35-year-old passenger in the back seat were also thrown from the truck and seriously injured, police said. They were transported to an area hospital.

The driver of the Explorer, a 43-year-old woman, suffered minor injuries, while two passengers in the SUV were uninjured, police said.

The accident happened in the 1500 block of East Market Street, near the intersection with Seiberling Street in East Akron.

The crash was reported at 1:54 p.m. and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:15 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.

Akron police said they are continuing to investigate the fatal crash.
