CMPD investigates motor vehicle collision in North Charlotte; A dead man

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating a June 1 motor vehicle death in North Charlotte.

According to a CMPD statement, at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers responded to a two-vehicle collision resulting in injuries located at the 6900 block of Old Statesville Road. When officers arrived, they located a Chevrolet SUV and a Honda Accord on the roadway with heavy front end damage.

Shakurius Samuel Woodard, 22, has been identified as the driver of the Honda. The driver of the Chevrolet has been identified as Regis Montoyan Gaddy. No other occupants were inside the two vehicles.

Medic transported Woodard to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Gaddy was also transported but with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to the CMPD, Gaddy was driving in the left lane of Old Statesville Road, heading northeast while Woodard was heading southwest. Woodard went left of center and into the path of Gaddy’s Chevy, causing the vehicles to collide head-on.

Speeds are unknown at this time, the CMPD said.

Later that day, Woodard was pronounced dead in hospital.
