Cook County man charged with impaired driving, crashed into IDOT truck

A Glenwood man has been charged with crashing into the back of an IDOT truck on Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:32 a.m., Illinois State Police officials investigated a three-vehicle crash on southbound I-94 near 47th Street in Cook County involving a patrol truck Illinois Department of Transportation Emergency Traffic Service.

According to police, the truck was stationary with emergency lights activated and providing traffic control for a previous accident.

A white Chevrolet truck was slowing down for the IDOT ETP truck, when a brown Chevrolet SUV traveling behind the white Chevrolet truck, failed to reduce its speed.

The SUV then struck the rear of the white Chevrolet truck, causing the truck to veer left off the roadway and hit the median concrete barrier, ISP said.

The brown Chevrolet SUV continued south, did not yield to the emergency vehicle and struck the rear of the IDOT ETP truck.


The IDOT truck driver and SUV driver were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The IDOT ETP truck passenger was not injured, police said.

The driver and passenger of the white Chevrolet truck were not injured.

The driver of the SUV, Khalfani J. Faulkner, 31, was charged with improper passing of an emergency vehicle under Scott’s Law, driving under the influence of alcohol, improper use of lanes, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and not reducing speed to avoid an accident. .
