Here’s our favorite feature of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback

Thus, the market for hatchbacks is shrinking – there is no point in denying it. As consumers search for more SUVs, the lines between different car models are blurring. We see more and more hatchbacks that look like SUVs (or sedans or coupes) and vice versa. But few legitimate hatchbacks have been produced in recent years, much to the disappointment of those who still value practicality above all else.

The traditional sedans that remain and maintain high sales are well known around the world. Yes, we immediately thought of the Volkswagen Golf as well. But there are other big names on the list, including the Kia Rio, Toyota Yaris, Chevy Bolt and the Honda Civic. These made sure to improve the concept of a hatchback.

We know what you’re going to say – the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback looks seriously sedan-like. It is, but it also remains traditional in every aspect that matters. The all-new Honda Civic may play a little on the styling edge, but it still does what a true sedan is made to do best: deliver great functionality.

Practicality is the best feature of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback

We’ve already mentioned that we think practicality is the best feature of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. Let’s see what exactly that means in terms of performance, design and ride quality.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is not a car you buy for the awesome power, but a compact car you get for the driving experience. In fact, this sedan was never intended to be a motor vehicle. With mid-level and specific specifications, it was intended to meet the needs of daily commuters, and it does the job well.

The Honda Civic Hatchback’s base engine is the 2-liter inline-four that produces 158 horsepower. It comes in LX and Sport versions. The EX-L and Sport Touring offer a bit more power with a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four engine. The base trim comes with a six-speed manual transmission which is also available in the Sport and Sport Touring, with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) as default.

We noticed that Honda also worked hard on improving its sedan’s handling and responsiveness for 2022. The Civic Hatchback offers stable and efficient acceleration, especially when paired with the continuously variable transmission. Thanks to the upgraded suspension, the sedan also corners impressively and provides a pleasant ride for anyone who prefers to take things slow and just roll on the road.

In addition to being responsive and fun to drive, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is superb on the road. It is much more athletic than its predecessors, mainly due to the smooth lines and clean front end. Honda designers have done a great job with this sedan both outside and inside, as we’ll show in a moment.

The 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback also packs a lot of cargo (like, seriously, a lot)

One of the conveniences of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is that you can load a lot of stuff. Although we expected it to be larger due to its sedan styling, we were indeed surprised by the roomy interior. You can use 25 cubic feet behind the Honda Civic Hatchback’s folding rear seat, and that’s not all.

What we love about the loadspace, in particular, is the smart design. Honda installed a so-called 60/40 split rear seatback for more flexibility. It also added the side-draw lid to allow for easier reach and offers a roof rack for those planning to go on an adventure with the new sedan. In summary, Honda has made sure to create a vehicle that is completely practical, from the engine to the cargo compartment.

We should also mention that the Civic Hatchback is packed with tech features. There’s a big screen up front, a premium sound system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and more. Honda also prides itself on an advanced safety package.

You can get the new Honda Hatchback without breaking the bank

The story of the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback and its practicality wouldn’t be complete without the price reference. Ideally, this compact and highly functional vehicle starts at $23,350. This is the price of a basic garnish without any extras. The Sport starts at $24,550 and the EX-L at $27,050. The most expensive is the Sport Touring, which costs $29,850 without any add-ons.

Surely you can spend a few more dollars on your 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback if you choose the features you like best. Still, the end cost shouldn’t go very far, and you can certainly pick up a shiny new sedan without breaking the bank.
