Constantia, NY — A one-year-old Oswego County girl died Friday after her mother lost control of her SUV and slammed into several trees in Constantia, troopers said.
The single-vehicle crash happened around 4:22 p.m. on State Route 49 near Adrian Circle, according to a news release Saturday from New York State Police.
Daschalee R. Nelipowitz, 23, of Central Square, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse westbound on Highway 49 when she lost control of the SUV, troopers said.
The SUV struck an embankment, flew away, and the passenger side of the vehicle slammed into several trees, state police said.
The toddler was a passenger in the back of the SUV, the soldiers said. A state police spokesperson declined to say whether the child was properly restrained in a child seat.
The baby girl was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she later died from injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said.
Daschalee was not injured in the crash, according to state police.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, the soldiers said.
State police are asking anyone with information about this accident to contact them at 315-366-6000.
The Constantia Fire Department and North Shore Ambulance assisted soldiers at the scene.
